HA NOI – Huynh Phuong Dai Trang defended her title after defeating Tran Lan Anh by 2-0 in the final of the National Tennis Championship at the HCM City-based Phu Tho Club yesterday.
To reach the final, the Da Nang-born girl beat Si Boi Ngoc by 2-0 (6-1, 6-2) and crushed Ngoc's teammate Tran Tam Hao by 2-0 (6-4, 6-3).
In the mixed doubles event, Do Minh Quan and Huynh Mai Huynh won the title after defeating Bui Thai Luan and Nguyen Ai Ngoc Van by 2-0 in the final match.
In other news, eight-time champion Quan is well on his way to defending his title in the men's singles event by defeating veteran Le Quoc Khanh by 2-1 (6-7, 6-3, 6-0) in the semi-final.
In the quarterfinal match, Quan beat 16 year old talent Nguyen Hoang Thien, the first Vietnamese player to take part in the Australian Open Tennis Tournament for U-18 players.
